Understanding Frown Lines and How Botox Can Help
What Are Frown Lines?
Frown lines are those pesky vertical and/or horizontal wrinkles that form between your eyebrows. They can give you an unintended angry or scowling expression, even when you're not frowning.
Muscles Behind Frown Lines:
Procerus Muscle: This is a large, fan-shaped muscle in the middle of the brow, responsible for those horizontal lines.
Corrugator Supercilii Muscles: These muscles stretch above the eyebrows and cause vertical frown lines.
Depressor Supercilii Muscles: Located on the sides of the Procerus muscle, these also play a role in forming frown lines.
Botox Injection Points for Frown Lines
To treat frown lines, Botox is injected into specific points around the brow area, targeting the muscles that cause these lines.
How the Procedure Works:
You'll be comfortably seated on a bed with the backrest slightly elevated.
The treatment area is cleaned.
Your skin is marked with a skin-safe marker to pinpoint the exact spots for injection. These points are personalized based on how your muscles move when you frown.
Botox is then injected into the targeted muscles, which only takes about 1-2 minutes.
Light pressure is applied to prevent bruising, and the marks are wiped away.
Botox Dosage:
For Women: Typically 15-28 units.
For Men: Usually 25-40 units.
Aftercare Tips:
Avoid lying down or massaging your forehead immediately after treatment to prevent Botox from moving toward the upper eyelids, which could cause a heavy or slightly droopy feeling. If this occurs, Iopidine eye drops can help manage it until it naturally resolves in 7-21 days.
Some people may experience a mild headache, which can be eased with Paracetamol.
Minor bruising might happen but can be easily covered with makeup and usually clears up in a few days.
You'll start to see the effects of Botox within 3-10 days, and these can last anywhere from 2 to 7 months, depending on the dosage and how your body processes the Botox. Some people naturally break down Botox faster than others.
If it's your first time, we might ask you to come back in 2-3 weeks for a follow-up to see if any touch-ups are needed.
Most people repeat the treatment once or twice a year to maintain their results.
