Botox for an excessively dimpled chin
An excessively dimpled chin, also known as "peau d’orange chin," is characterized by an overly dimpled, pebbly appearance of the chin. This effect worsens when the Mentalis muscle, located in the chin, contracts.
Understanding the Muscles Involved
The orange peel texture is caused by the contraction of the two Mentalis muscles in the chin. Botox can help relax these muscles, smoothing out the skin.
Botox Treatment for an Orange Peel Chin
Injection Technique
The patient is seated comfortably with the backrest elevated.
The chin area is thoroughly cleaned.
The skin over the Mentalis muscles is marked with a skin marker to guide the injection placement.
Care is taken to avoid injecting too far to the sides (laterally) to prevent weakening the Depressor Labii Inferioris muscle.
It is also important to avoid injecting too close to the lips (superiorly) to prevent weakening the Orbicularis Oris muscle around the mouth.
The injections are performed quickly, taking about 30 seconds.
Light pressure is applied to minimize bruising.
The skin marker marks are wiped off.
Botox Dosage for an Orange Peel Chin:
For women: 2 units per muscle
For men: 3-5 units per muscle
Aftercare Instructions
Minor bruising may occur but can be concealed with makeup and typically resolves within a few days.
The effects of Botox usually begin to appear within 3-10 days and can last between 2 to 7 months, depending on the dosage and the patient's metabolism. Some patients may metabolize Botox faster than others.
First-time patients may be asked to return after 2-3 weeks for a follow-up and a possible top-up if needed.
Most patients choose to repeat the treatment once or twice a year
