Comparing PRP with Subcision vs. PRP with Microneedling for Atrophic Acne Scars: A Split-Face Study
This study aimed to compare the effectiveness of two treatments for atrophic post-acne scars: microneedling with platelet-rich plasma (PRP) versus subcision with PRP. The researchers conducted a split-face study on 50 patients, where one side of each patient's face was treated with microneedling and PRP, while the other side received subcision and PRP.
The outcomes were assessed using the Goodman and Baron qualitative and quantitative grading system. Results showed that the microneedling side had 10% of patients with 1 grade improvement, 70% with 2 grades improvement, and 20% with 3 grades improvement. The subcision side had 2% of patients with no improvement, 18% with 1 grade improvement, 50% with 2 grades improvement, and 30% with 3 grades improvement.
The conclusion of the study was that while both treatment modalities showed statistically significant improvements, there was no significant difference between the two in terms of qualitative improvement in acne scars.
